Giving directory for community groups
Foedera
A directory of Minnesota nonprofits for volunteer groups that raise money and give it away, with every listing checked against public records.

- The problem
Volunteer community groups raise money and give it away, and their treasurers spend hours checking whether a nonprofit is eligible and in good standing. There was no shared list to start from.
- What I built
A directory of 367 organizations across 87 Minnesota counties. An organization is added only after its EIN is confirmed with the IRS. After that, four public sources are checked on a schedule and shown on its page, each linked and dated: the IRS master file, the IRS revocation list, the latest Form 990, and the Minnesota Attorney General's charity records. Foedera never rates, scores or grades anyone.
Groups browse by county and issue area, switch to a map, share a filtered view as a link or print it for a meeting. They can log what they give, which adds up to a public ledger that never names the group. Reviewers sign in to vet suggested organizations against a written rubric, and every decision is logged with a reason.
- Built with
Vite and React, Leaflet and OpenStreetMap, Airtable, Vercel serverless functions, Resend for sign-in links, and enrichment scripts against ProPublica, the IRS revocation list and the Minnesota Attorney General's charity records
